UNEXPECTED WEATHER

"Greetings out there in CrosspointLandia! It's your number one weather guy, Ray, with the day's forecast. Things are looking strange out there today, folks. A powerful weather front has blown in from somewhere and it's not looking like it's going anywhere anytime soon. We've got a one hundred percent chance of rain, hail, and snow today. Best take a page from the Boy Scouts and be prepared if you go outside. You're going to need it. And now, the news..."

Every once in a while at Crosspoint Hills, during one of the magical hours, something odd will slip in through the magical barriers. Well, okay, more odd than the usual odd. This time, it's a magical weather front and it's a big one. The sheer size and force of the storm maker guarantees it'll be sticking around for a while, too, so you'd best be getting used to the oddness.

You know the old saying, "Don't like the weather? Wait a minute and it'll change"? This storm is proof of it. Emerging from your home in a rain storm and walking two blocks over to the cafe for lunch may seem like nothing at all, but the four inches of snow outside when you leave the cafe may have you thinking otherwise. Weather can, literally, change in the blink of an eye right now. Dress accordingly and watch your step.

RAIN - A minute ago, the sun might have been shining bright, but now you're caught out in the rain. It can vary between a light drizzle to blinding downpours that leave you stranded right where you are. Pay a visit to one of the local stores to see if you can find an umbrella or take shelter at the Inn or one of the diners.
Rain is known to effect moods in some. If you were happy before, you are suddenly depressed. If you were angry, you are now relaxed. If you were fine by yourself, you are suddenly entirely in love with the first person you see! The possibilities are absolutely endless.

HAIL - Ow! What was that? Looks like it's hailing pretty heavy out there. Probably not the best idea to be outside when lumps of ice are coming from the sky. Make a dash for shelter, quick!
Hail is known to affect you physically. Genderswap or a younger/older body... maybe you suddenly have a tail or some ears! The sky is the limit when it comes to what can happen to you physically.

SNOW - Brrr! It was so warm a moment ago and now you're caught in the snow. Light flurries or a full-on blizzard, you never know what's going to be waiting outside your door! Take a step out, play around... maybe try making some snow angels or a snowman. Or you can always head on inside and grab a nice, warm mug of hot chocolate to enjoy or find a fire to sit in front of.
Snow affects your personality. Good is evil and evil is good. Maybe before you stepped out in the snow, you were kind-hearted and now you're feeling very callous towards everyone or maybe before all this, you would have stolen candy from a baby, not helped that old Granny cross the road. Any aspect of your character's personality can be changed.

THE CROSSPOINT HILLS FESTIVAL

Welcome to the 32nd annual Crosspoint Hills Carrot Festival! You may not know this, fortunate traveler, but Crosspoint Hills is known for its carrot production. In fact, it's the town's only cash crop for export and they grow them by the bushel!

In order to celebrate the year's harvest, a carnival has been set up all throughout Main Street and downtown. Some space between the river and the north side of town is now filled with large carnival rides too big to fit in downtown. Signs of the festival can be seen all throughout the town in the various seasonal food offerings and trinkets on sale.

All the townspeople are decked out in their very best, bright orange clothing and selling carrot themed souvenirs. A band plays hourly sets downtown while visitors mingle and shop. Get your face painted by wandering artists or a nice henna tattoo from a henna artist working out in front of the theater.

Carrot related foods and beverages are being sold from vendors and kiosks all over. Don't walk past without trying their world famous carrot cake or a chilled glass of carrot wine. Carrot bread, carrot candies, carrot cocktails, and carrot ice cream are just a few of the tasty treats you won't find anywhere else.

Pick up a carrot infused funnel cake on your way to the Ferris wheel or the carousel. Or maybe you'd prefer a roller coaster ride? The carnival has two: one regular wooden coaster and one inverted coaster with loops and tunnels for the more adventurous. A petting zoo offers the full carrot experience with piles or fuzzy bunnies and other critters to play with.

Games of all sorts can be played here. Balloon pops and cap gun ranges will win you prizes. Dice games, fishbowls, and ping pong games reward the lucky. The not so lucky can try their luck on another game or...

... head over to Madame Rain's Palm Reading and Fortune Telling table. She's set up shop in the Twisted Branch B&B and is available for all who want to get a little glimpse of what's to come. Just don't ask for a seance. The staff does not approve.

Sitting on the other side of Gil's All Night Diner is a creaky old haunted house. The outer facade and grounds are dilapidated enough to make anyone wary. The otherworldly sounds coming from inside should give visitors a moment's pause. The ghosts inside may not be as friendly as the B&B staff.

Each night, the town has a dance in the center square with a live band playing for a few hours. At the end of the night, as the band plays its last number, a fireworks display goes off over the town, delighting all who care to watch.

((This event will run through August 31st, at which time a new event will take its place.))
